Happy Plant Botanicals

Happy Plant Botanicals is a woman-owned University of Pittsburgh supplier offering plant-based skincare that combines clean skincare with animal advocacy. Happy Plant Botanicals’ formulas are 100% vegan and utilize active botanicals, organic superfruits, and rare plant extracts to address the four most common skin concerns with 5% of all sales donated to animal rescue.

Founder and CEO, Jennifer (Jen) Jennifer Dohmlo, started Happy Plant Botanicals in 2023. Jen credits her two rescue dogs, Scally and Blue, for starting her journey into the world of conscious skincare. Happy Plant Botanicals was born of the concept of creating plant-based products that nourish the skin while simultaneously giving that same love to animals in need. By donating 5% of every sale to grassroots animal rescue organizations, this ongoing cycle allowed for Happy Plant Botanical’s hashtag: #HappySkinForHappyPups.

Along with putting their best “paw” forward in the world of animal advocacy, Happy Plant Botanicals is also on a mission to endorse sustainability with 100% sustainable packaging. They have a commitment to making your skin happy while making the Earth happy in the process.

Jen noted, “Not many people realize that the beauty industry accounts for over 120 million units of plastic waste annually. It's insane. That is why it was important that all of our packaging be sustainable. We only use glass bottles and jars, which are not only recyclable but also reusable; our labels look like plastic but are actually made from wood pulp and are biodegradable. And we ship everything in biodegradable shipping mailers, which are made from corn.”

As an additional win for us here at Pitt, Happy Plant Botanical’s ongoing efforts in sustainability aligns with Pitt’s own sustainability initiatives. Visit their website to learn more.

As a Pittsburgh-founded business, this innovative skincare company has always been dedicated to supporting the local Pittsburgh community and the university itself. When the company was first opened, Jen collaborated with Pitt students for the launch campaign. To this day, if you visit the Happy Plant Botanicals website, you’ll notice that most of the models featured in the photography section are Pitt students! Many students also continue to do freelance social media campaigns.

Happy skin, happy pups, a happy earth, and a focus on the local community – what more can you ask for? Happy Plant Botanicals will be present at the newly expanded Pitt Public Market on Wednesdays, where you can shop for their products in person. You can also check out the Happy Plant Botanicals website for more insight into this exciting Pittsburgh-founded business. Keep Happy Plant Botanicals in mind for your next skincare routine purchase or gift ideas (the holidays will be here before we know it)!
